About The PowerLog
Over the last three years Flax Power Ltd. has developed and build a biomass continuous extrusion process that densifies an annually renewable agricultural waste product into an all natural environmentally friendly fire log. We will be launching the product into the 2011 marketplace. The product has been trade marked as the PowerLog.
The raw material is a product called flax shives. Flax shives are a bi product produced when flax straw is processed and the fiber is removed for other purposes. The remaining flax shives resemble small pieces of the stem of the flax plant.
The flax shives are dried & introduced into the extruder with no glues, waxes, resins or binding agents of any kind. 100% natural flax shives NO ADDITIVES. The continuous screw extrusion process macerates the fibers together and through friction and pressure creates the precise amount of heat required to melt the natural lignins in the product. It is these natural lignins that bind the PowerLogs together extremely tightly.
Many of the fire logs available on the market today contain as much as 50% wax. Although some manufacturers are moving towards so called bio waxes & plant oils nevertheless they still are using wax additives. This is the reason of course that the burn time is only two to three hours maximum on these types of fire logs. Another method of compressing fire logs is with a piston type machine that resembles the same technology as an agricultural straw baler. The piston machine simply packs one quantity of material (usually sawdust) against the other with a ram. When piston manufactured logs burn they tend to crack at each division where the piston cycled, air is allowed into these cracks & these logs do not have a burn time much past a few hours at best.
Because of the macerating action of the PowerLog extruders the logs are bound together much tighter and have a density (specific gravity is greater than one) far greater than the wax or piston type fire logs available today. The PowerLogs have been tested for burn duration at Omni Environmental Services against oak cord wood & while the oak burned for a respectable ten hours the PowerLogs were the clear winner with a burn time of FIFTEEN AND ONE HALF HOURS. The logs burn with a brilliant flame for 2 to 3 hours and then continue to radiate heat in the form of red hot coals with a total burn time of up to 10 Hours.
When comparing the burning of PowerLogs verses oak the PowerLogs have 80 % less particulate emissions, 66 % less creosote, more B.T.U. ‘s per pound and the extended
burn time previously mentioned. All emission claims are substantiated by the information available in our Omni reports. The PowerLogs are also considered to be a CO2 neutral
fuel not adding to our ever worsening green house gas problem.
The PowerLogs are 4 inches in diameter and 10 inches long. Each PowerLog weighs about 4 1/2 pounds.
The PowerLogs are available in either a four count retail box or an eight count bulk box.
The white retail boxes are two color (green & blue). Each pallet has 108 four count boxes for a pallet
total of 432 PowerLogs. The bulk PowerLogs are in a plain brown eight count box. Each bulk
pallet has 54 boxes for a pallet total of 432 PowerLogs.
The PowerLogs are a superior performing environmentally friendly alternative that can be used in any type of wood stove, fire place, out door boiler, patio burner or open fire pit. Cord wood can be replaced with the PowerLogs in virtually any application
